Calliope, Anna's, Black-chinned, Broad Tailed, and Rufous are some of the delicate hummingbirds that migrate thousands of miles every spring from Mexico and Central America to Montana.
After seeing the documentary, Every Little Thing, about Terry Masear, a hummingbird rehabber in LA, Jennie had to create a cape in honor of this brave and powerful little creature. Each bird was hand-drawn and digitalized for her Bernina to sew. Many were embroidered with fragile metallic thread for that bright hummingbird sparkle!
Hand-cut flowers and leaves, of Penstemon, Golden Current, and BeeBalm were appliquéd. One of the most complex and time-consuming pieces she has created. Lined with colorful cotton sateen. Inside leather pocket for cell phone and car keys, closes with a full zipper.
Won, Best Collection Fashion Show, as one of six capes, at the 2024 Western Design Conference, Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Featured in Big Sky Journal's 2024 Best Gifts of the Season review.
Jennie prepared and stretched the bison before having it tanned. She chose the best fluffiest bison to trim this one-of-a-kind piece's cuffs and luxurious hood.
