Feather and Elk Tooth Appliquéd Wool Coat with Bison Trim
Feather and Elk Tooth Appliquéd Wool Coat with Bison Trim
Hope is the thing with feathers - that perches in the soul - Emily Dickinson
Melton wool coat decorated with embroidered feathers and faux elk teeth. Accessorized with leather shoulder accents and pockets. Created with a nod to our indigenous sisters who decorated their trade-cloth dresses with elk teeth, which showed their status as daughters and wives of skilled hunters. Only two elk ivories can be gathered from each elk, so a dress with many elk teeth shows the wearer is from a successful family of providers. The lining is a rich complementary flannel plaid, and closes with a full zipper. Jennie prepared and stretched the bison before having it tanned. She chose the best fluffiest bison to trim the cuffs and luxurious hood of this one-of-a-kind piece. Dry-Clean Only.
